據(jù)臺灣中時電子報報道，南海仲裁將太平島變?yōu)閹r礁，極其荒謬。連菲律賓《世界日報》都發(fā)表社論批評國際仲裁法院的裁判是“亂講一通”，但這仲裁引用文獻(xiàn)竟有臺大教授姜皇池“太平島是礁石，不是島嶼”文章，讓臺灣民眾氣憤，前“立委”蔡正元在臉書痛批姜皇池是賣臺賊！
臺大教授姜皇池文章被南海仲裁中代表菲律賓的美國大律師拿來做證據(jù)，這文章日前刊載在“臺北時報”（Taipei Times），文中表示 “Let us not forget that the Spratly Islands(南沙群島) are comprised of hundreds of atolls and islets, and that Itu Aba is just one of them. If even one small island is already beyond reach for Taiwan, how could we have the capability to lay claim to the entire Spratly Islands chain？”將太平島指是 “one of them”(諸多atolls(礁巖)之一)，并稱太平島政策是幾十年前定的，“是時候面對現(xiàn)實，進(jìn)行必要調(diào)整？”，不解的是姜皇池稱呼太平島竟用菲國名稱 Itu Aba(伊圖 阿巴) 而非用 Taiping(太平)。
